Si bien la amistad que tenemos con Sergio Ovando databa de solo tres años atrás al momento de iniciar el proyecto, pareciera que fuese de toda la vida, y en cierto sentido quizás lo fue, ya que ambos tuvimos amigos en común desde la adolescencia.
Sergio realizó una larga búsqueda de un sitio adecuado para vivir en las afueras de Cochabamba. Sin embargo, llegó a la conclusión de que el ideal sería contar con una casa urbana y un refugio alternativo que le permita salir de la ciudad los fines de semana; fue así que en una nueva pesquisa encontró este lomerío en medio del gran valle de Cochabamba para construir allí su segunda vivienda a 35km. de la ciudad. Descripción del proyecto
El sitio es sobrecogedor, ya que, en medio de la aridez de este sector, la urbanización -que fue planificada alrededor de un campo de golf- recala en un subvalle muy verde, con varias lagunas y las típicas acacias y molles de regiones áridas, árboles adultos que Sergio me conminó a conservar dentro del terreno de cerca de 1,200m2.
El programa de encargo no era complicado y fue de cierta manera liberando mi propia interpretación de refugio que la familia podía requerir, salvando algunas condiciones: debía poderse contemplar permanentemente el paisaje (tanto en invierno, como en verano, sobre todo desde la cocina) y debía considerarse la preferencia por habitar una terraza a lo largo del día.
Hay que añadir que debía satisfacerse la espléndida costumbre de Sergio, que le gusta acoger a sus visitantes en compañía de los mejores vinos, para lo cual había que independizar de alguna manera un sector privado de las áreas de estar.
Desde hacía algunos años que venía persiguiendo la idea de meter un proyecto por debajo de un gran plano inclinado, a manera de una gran piedra pizarra asentada encima del terreno, que permitiera pensar en un tremendo peso levitando sobre un débil cerramiento vidriado.

RETREAT IN COLINAS DE AMIRAYA

Although the friendship we have with Sergio Ovando dates back to only three years by the time the project began, it seems that it was lifelong, and in a sense perhaps it was, since we both had friends in common since adolescence.
Sergio made a long search for a suitable place to live on the outskirts of Cochabamba. However, he concluded that the ideal would be to have a townhouse and an alternative shelter that allows him to leave the city on weekends; It was thus that in a new investigation he found this hill in the middle of the great valley of Cochabamba to build his second home 35km away. from the city.
The site is overwhelming, since, in the middle of the aridity of this sector, the urbanization -which was planned around a golf course- lands in a very green sub-valley, with several lagoons and the typical acacias and molles of arid regions, adult trees that Sergio ordered me to conserve within the area of about 1,200m2.
The commissioned program was not complicated and it was in a certain way liberating my own interpretation of refuge that the family could require, saving some conditions: it should be possible to permanently contemplate the landscape (both in winter and in summer, especially from the kitchen) and the preference for inhabiting a terrace throughout the day should be considered.
It must be added that Sergio’s splendid custom had to be satisfied, that he likes to welcome his visitors in the company of the best wines, for which a private sector had to be made independent in some way from the living areas.
For some years he had been pursuing the idea of putting a project under a large inclined plane, in the manner of a large slate stone sitting on top of the ground, which would allow us to think of a tremendous weight levitating over a weak glazed enclosure.
