La pareja propietaria de esta casa la constituyen dos amigos entrañables. Por eso, el desafío de realizar su casa se constituyó en un evento en la historia de este taller, no sólo porque se hicieron tres proyectos, sino porque pude verter en cada uno de ellos la traducción de sus vidas, sus modos y, probablemente también de sus sueños.
El primero de los proyectos pudo haber sido una obra maestra singular que lamentablemente no se llevó a cabo. (Daniel)
Descripción del proyecto
Hacia fines del siglo pasado, se dio inicio al concepto de barrios cerrados en la ciudad de La Paz. La urbanización San Alberto es una de ellas con la singularidad de presentarse como un gran mirador hacia diferentes sectores de la ciudad. Por ello las viviendas que se anidan allí tienen intensas vistas hacia la ciudad, sin embargo, es de ida y vuelta, la ciudad las mira a ellas también. Esto se vio aún más afectado por la presencia de la Línea Verde del Teleférico que pasa por encima de esta urbanización.
Una volumetría compacta empotrada en la topografía presenta un pequeño giro, a la cual se adiciona un potente volumen texturado, trabajado con ladrillo visto, que acompaña el ingreso vidriado de altura y media, permitiendo así atravesar visualmente la vivienda de lado a lado y observar la vista incluso desde la puerta de calle.
La orientación de los espacios y dormitorios hacia la vista ha sido premeditada y fue parte del programa desde que se empezó a concebir la casa. Mis amigos participaron activamente en muchas de las decisiones tomadas, tanto de materialidad, como de distribución; particularmente estuvieron muy involucrados en los ventanales que debíamos dejar hacia el espléndido mirador que balconea hacia el centro de la ciudad, que coincide con el preciado sol poniente paceño.
Para el menor de nosotros en el actual Estudio, esta obra se convierte en una primera experiencia en la que el taller, es decir, papá y por entonces también jefe, comienza a escuchar e introducir mis ideas y nociones en el proceso de diseño y construcción, y abrir la responsabilidad de un joven, en ese entonces de 23 años, de acercarse a la búsqueda de nuevos posibles paradigmas para el Taller. Desde ese momento y hasta la actualidad, esa relación padre, mentor, colega y ahora socio, se ha ido revisando, ha ido madurando en una compleja red de sensaciones desafiantes, llenas de admiración y evidente amor, ya no sólo por papá, sino también por el diálogo de ideas y de anhelos. Los senderos caminados que esta práctica hermanada entre padre e hijo, hoy entre socios, nos impulsa a relanzar el emprendimiento en busca de otra mirada hacia la ciudad de La Paz y sus habitantes. Esa ruta, comienza en este proyecto y uno en Achocalla de menor escala. (Santiago)

HOUSE IN SAN ALBERTO II
La Paz, Bolivia
The couple who own this house are made up of two close friends. For this reason, the challenge of creating their home became an event in the history of this workshop, not only because three projects were carried out, but also because I was able to pour into each one of them the translation of their lives, their ways and, probably, also their dreams.
The first of the projects could have been a singular masterpiece that unfortunately was not carried out.
Towards the end of the last century, the concept of gated communities began its inception in the city of La Paz. The San Alberto enclosed urbanization is one of them with the singularity of presenting itself as a great viewpoint towards different sectors of the city. For this reason, the houses that are nested there have intense views of the city. However, it’s a two way ralationship, the city looks at them too. This was even more affected by the presence of the Green Line of the Cable Car that passes over this urbanization.
A compact volumetry embedded in the topography presents a small twist, to which a powerful textured volume, worked with exposed brick, is added. This one accompanies the glazed, height and a half, entrance, thus allowing to visually cross the house from side to side and observe the view, even from the front door.
The orientation of the spaces and bedrooms towards the view has been premeditated and was part of the program since the house was conceived. My friends actively participated in many of the decisions made, both regarding materiality and distribution; particularly they were very involved in the windows that we had to leave towards the splendid viewpoint that overlooks the center of the city, which coincides with the precious La Paz setting sun.
For the youngest of us in the current Studio, this work becomes a first experience in which the workshop, that is to say, father and then also boss, begins to listen and introduce my ideas and notions in the design and construction process, and open the responsibility of a young man, then 23 years old, to approach the search for new possible paradigms for the Workshop. From that moment to the present, this relationship, father, mentor, colleague and now partner, has been revised, has matured into a complex network of challenging sensations, full of admiration and evident love, not only for dad, but also for the dialogue of ideas and desires. The paths walked that this twinned practice between father and son, today between partners, prompts us to relaunch the venture in search of another look towards the city of La Paz and its inhabitants. That route begins in this project and with one in Achocalla on a smaller scale.
