Por ese entonces yo había retornado de Alemania con la idea de volver a asentarme en La Paz y realizar tanto mis actividades como artista visual y un retorno a la arquitectura luego de dos años de maestría en la Bauhaus Universitát Weimar. Regresar también se presentaba por la idea de poder iniciar una etapa nueva junto a mi papá, pero ya como iguales. Si bien, Estudio Contreras no comienza inmediatamente, y tardamos cuatro años en animarnos a dar el paso, es con este proyecto y el realizado en Siguayo que realmente abre esta etapa de diseño, yo encargándome un tanto las riendas del proceso creativo y de gestación y mi papá de la depuración técnica y funcional de muchos de los proyectos de vivienda del estudio. Descripción del proyecto
El proyecto de esta vivienda para una joven pareja nace de un esquema morfológico inspirado en la casa Y de Steven Holl. Dos prismas que se encuentran y que a partir de ese encuentro generan una doble altura uqe articula y organiza el espacio funcional. Hacia el este organizamos la cocina y el servicio. Decidimos dejar los el dormitorio principal y los secundarios la posibilidad de generosas vistas hacia el valle de Aranjuez, en La Paz. También pensamos la arquitectura a partir de una masa más sólida y cerrada en la planta alta en oposición a un cuerpo transparente que la sostiene, algo que ya habíamos buscando como taller en anteriores proyectos.

HOUSE IN SERRANÍAS DE ARANJUEZ II
La Paz, Bolivia.
At that time, I had returned from Germany with the idea of settling back in La Paz and resuming my work as a visual artist and returning to architecture after two years of a master’s degree at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Returning was also motivated by the idea of starting a new chapter alongside my father, but this time as equals. Although Estudio Contreras didn’t begin immediately, and it took us four years to take the plunge, it was with this project and the one in Siguayo that this design phase truly began. I took the reins somewhat in the creative and development process, while my father handled the technical and functional refinement of many of the studio’s residential projects. (Santiago)
The design for this house for a young couple stems from a morphological scheme inspired by Steven Holl’s Y-House. Two prisms meet, and from this encounter, a double-height space is created, articulating and organizing the functional area. The kitchen and service areas are located to the east. We decided to leave the master and secondary bedrooms with the possibility of generous views towards the Aranjuez valley, in La Paz. We also conceived the architecture based on a more solid and closed mass on the upper floor in contrast to a transparent body that supports it, something we had already explored as a workshop in previous projects.
