Mucha gente me conoce más por el arte, pero también hago arquitectura y esta obra para mi mamá, ha concentrado mis esfuerzos entre el 2019 y el 2020. Creo que no hay sueño más grande que ése y termina resultando que no hay mejor cliente, pero de lo que estoy convencido es que en esta obra se han vertido una serie de energías que la trascienden; al colectivo de albañiles que la ha construido y a las personas que después hemos estado poblando estos espacios. Creo que la arquitectura es eso al final: un cúmulo de procesos humanos que dan sentido onírico a algo material, que pueblan el espacio luego de que sus generaciones cambian; ahí yace el aura de la creación, en el amor a la misma, en los afectos vertidos entre seres humanos mientras los sueños ahí se construyen. Sí, crear es un acto de amor también.
El espacio habitable creo que viene de la mano de una escucha de anhelos, sueños e imaginaciones que la persona que encarga el proyecto vierte en eso que uno imagina al diseñar. La vivienda termina siendo ese puente entre imaginaciones, porque presenta lo más puro de la convivencia humana. En esta vivienda creo que hemos sabido escucharnos, yo a ella y ella a mí, con mis propias imaginaciones de lo que mi madre quería. El encargo era sencillo, poder leer, poder tejer, tocar el piano (cuando finalmente lo lleve) en un espacio continuo, abierto al jardín; que a pesar de ser una casa pequeña se sienta amplia y que invite a la luz al espacio interior.(Santiago)
Descripción del proyecto
El proyecto debía hacer un uso inteligente de un estrecho y alargado lote, y respetar lo más que se pueda a toda la masa arbórea preexistente. La forma del lote entonces determina la manera de encarar el proyecto que es en esencia muy sencillo: se trata de una caja rectangular que presenta una incisión diagonal en la parte suroeste, cubierta por un plano rectangular desprendido del volumen principal y conectado a éste por una serie de muros rehundidos y planos de vidrio que le otorgan a la cubierta la sensación de flotar sobre la caja principal que compone a la vivienda. La cubierta presenta además una doble inclinación tanto en el sentido longitudinal como en el transversal que permite que luz desde el oeste ingrese a los ambientes principales en horas de la tarde.
Dos adhesiones se suman a la casa, una batería de baños que funciona como volumen añadido y un plano de hormigón armado que se conecta diagonal a la vivienda que alberga la puerta de ingreso a la vivienda.
El interior se divide desde el centro hacia los extremos de la vivienda, dejando a un gran espacio que componen la sala, el comedor y la cocina en el medio. La utilización de puertas ventana permite la ventilación cruzada, y abre este ambiente para generar un flujo continuo entre la terraza y patio exteriores que da al este y el jardín a través del cual se ingresa a la vivienda en el ala oeste. Hacia el norte se despliegan el dormitorio de visitas con un altillo en la parte superior y el dormitorio principal que se abre hacia el jardín mediante un amplio ventanal que conforma toda la fachada norte. Hacia el sur la vivienda despliega la lavandería, un depósito y el dormitorio en suite de la segunda habitante de la vivienda.

HOUSE IN HUAJCHILLA

Many people know me more for art, but I also do architecture and this work for my mother has concentrated my efforts between 2019 and 2020. I think there is no bigger dream than that and it ends up being that there is no better client, but of what I am convinced is that a series of energies have transcended it and have been poured into this work; to the group of masons who built it and to the people who have later been populating these spaces. I think that architecture is that in the end: a cluster of human processes that give oneiric meaning to something material, that populate the space after their generations change; there lies the aura of creation, in the love of it, in the affections poured out between human beings while dreams are built there. Yes, creating is an act of love too.
I think the living space comes from the hand of listening to desires, dreams and imaginations that the person who commissioned the project pours into what one imagines while design is taking place. The house ends up being that bridge between imaginations, because it presents the purest of human coexistence. In this house I think we have known how to listen to each other, I to her and she to me, with my own imaginations of what my mother wanted. The commission was simple, to be able to read, to be able to weave, to play the piano (when she finally takes it) in a continuous space, open to the garden; that despite being a small house it still feels spacious, inviting light into the interior space.
That love for construction was infected in the team that has put it together, whose hands and minds, and their own affections for space, breathe in the fondness, that they have put into the details, even with the mistakes we have made.
The project had to make an intelligent use of a narrow and elongated lot, and respect as much as possible the entire pre-existing tree mass. The shape of the lot then determines the way of approaching the project, which is essentially very simple: it is made of a rectangular box that presents a diagonal incision in the southwest part, covered by a rectangular plane detached from the main volume and connected to it by a series of recessed walls and glass planes that give the roof the sensation of floating on the main box that makes up the house. The roof also presents a double inclination both in the longitudinal and in the transversal direction that allows light from the west to enter the main rooms in the afternoon.
Two adhesions are added to the house, a battery of bathrooms that works as an added volume and a reinforced concrete plane that connects diagonally to the house holding the entrance door to the house.
The interior is divided from the center to the ends of the house, leaving a large space that makes up the living room, dining room and kitchen in the middle. The use of modern French windows allows cross ventilation, and opens this environment to generate a continuous flow between the terrace and patio that faces the east and the garden through which the house is entered in the west wing. The north wing of the house unfolds first the guest bedroom with a loft in the upper part, and secondly towards the entire north facade the master bedroom which opens onto the garden through a large. Towards the south the house unfolds the laundry, a deposit and the bedroom in suite of the second inhabitant of the house.
