Sin lugar a dudas es toda una sorpresa –y una experiencia- recibir una llamada que decía algo así: “señor Contreras, le hablamos de Palacio de Gobierno, el Presidente de la República desea hablar con Ud.”
Y allí comenzó esta breve historia de intervenir en el lugar más importante del país, realizando los proyectos para revitalizar y modernizar tres salas en Palacio de Gobierno. Por razones de partidas presupuestarias no se podían realizar todos los trabajos al mismo tiempo y se optó por comenzar por la Sala de Prensa. Lamentablemente circunstancias políticas obligaron al Presidente a renunciar y con ello los otros dos proyectos fueron archivados
Es importante mencionar que todos estos proyectos fueron presentados a una “Junta de Notables” y al Presidente en persona, quienes terminaron aprobando las ideas presentadas, luego de realizadas algunas recomendaciones.. (Daniel)
Descripción del proyecto
SALA PRIVADA: Contigua al Despacho Presidencial, se hallaba esta sala en desuso, a la cual incluso le faltaba el piso de machimbre, ya que se estuvieron renovando en una anterior gestión los envigados de entrepiso. Esta sala estaba destinada a recibir a pequeños grupos de personas, la mesa planificada hasta un límite de 15 personas.
SALA PARA 50 PERSONAS: En planta baja, bajo un embovedado estructural, se debía realizar una sala para recibir grupos grandes y se la planificó para 50 personas, algunas sentadas en la mesa central otras en una tarima de fondo; pudiendo existir observadores en el perímetro del ambiente.
Debido a las normas internacionales de intervención en edificios patrimoniales, toda la intervención a realizar debía ser fácilmente removible y no debía intervenir sobre la estructura original, por ello se propuso un forro con paneles de madera, los cuales podrían albergar cerramientos corredizos para oscurecer las ventanas de la sala para proyecciones y bajar la elevada escala de la sala. El motivo central fue un elemento lámpara por encima de la mesa el cual tendría que proveer toda la iluminación requerida de trabajo y de proyección.
SALA DE PRENSA: En el extremo opuesto del edificio y de la sala de 50 personas, también bajo una estructura original abovedada se requirió una Sala de Prensa con todas las comodidades para que los medios de comunicación pudieran realizar sus conexiones para transmisión en directo.
Se optó por trabajar, al igual que en las otras salas oscureciendo el ambiente con colores poco luminosos, y de esta manera, sería la iluminación la que realizaría la labor de resaltar a los actores principales en ellas.
En adición, se reflexionó mucho sobre la posibilidad de sustituir la típica cortina que se tiene en una sala de prensa, por detrás del escudo de Palacio de Gobierno. Luego de muchos ensayos y maquetas, se decidió realizar una textura vertical sólida, con entrantes y salientes.
Finalmente se requería de un elemento integrador que permita cierta privacidad entre el sector técnico y el sector de periodistas, sin embargo, no podía existir una separación total; por ello se optó por una celosía continua de madera que permitía esta integración, en adición a una generación formal atrevida y continua.

THREE ROOMS IN THE GOVERNMENT PALACE

Without a doubt, it is quite a surprise – and an experience – to receive a call that said something like this: “Mr. Contreras, we are calling from the Government Palace, the President of the Republic wishes to speak with you.”
And there began this brief history of intervening in the most important place in the country, carrying out projects to revitalize and modernize three rooms in the Government Palace.
For reasons of budgetary items, not all the works could be carried out at the same time and it was decided to start with the Press Room. Unfortunately, political circumstances forced the President to resign and with that the other two projects were shelved.
It is important to mention that all these projects were presented to a “Board of Notables” and to the President in person, who ended up approving the ideas presented, after making some recommendations.
PRIVATE ROOM: Adjacent to the Presidential Office, this room was in disuse, which even lacked the machimbre floor, since the mezzanine beams had been renovated in a previous management. This room was intended to receive small groups of people, the table planned up to a limit of 15 people.
ROOM FOR 50 PEOPLE: On the ground floor, under a structural vault, a room had to be made to receive large groups and it was planned for 50 people, some seated at the central table, others on a platform in the background; observers may exist on the perimeter of the room.
Due to international standards for intervention in heritage buildings, all the intervention to be carried out had to be easily removable and should not intervene on the original structure, for this reason a lining with wood panels was proposed, which could house sliding closures to darken the windows of the screening room and lower the room’s elevated scale. The central motif was a lamp element above the table which would have to provide all the required work and projection lighting.
PRESS ROOM: At the opposite end of the building and the 50-person room, also under an original vaulted structure, a Press Room with all the comforts was required so that the media could make their connections for live transmission.
It was decided to work, as in the other rooms, darkening the environment with low-light colors, and in this way, it would be the lighting that would perform the task of highlighting the main actors in them.
In addition, much thought was given to the possibility of replacing the typical curtain found in a press room, behind the coat of arms of the Government Palace. After many trials and models, it was decided to make a solid vertical texture, with recesses and projections.
Finally, an integrating element was required that allows a certain privacy between the technical sector and the journalists sector, however, there could not be a total separation; For this reason, a continuous wooden lattice was chosen that allowed this integration, in addition to a daring and continuous formal generation.
